    The Leon County Sheriff’s Office arrested an 8th grade student at Cobb Middle Wednesday. School staff conducted a search of his backpack and found a mini stun gun and multiple razor blades. The student was arrested for Possession of Multiple Weapons on School Campus.     State parks would have more protection from development under a bill approved in the full Florida House on Wednesday. The measure, (HB 209) follows last year’s failed proposal to build golf courses, hotels and resorts in the parks. Rep. John Snyder, R-Stuart, is behind the House measure to help protect all state parks from future development.

    The Florida House on Thursday approved a measure making it more difficult for citizen-led constitutional amendments to get on state ballots. The proposal (HB 1205) underwent several changes, but ultimately critics claim the measure reduces access to democracy, while supporters say it adds guardrails to the citizen petition process. “We already have very strict procedures in place," said Cecile Scoon, the co-president of the League of Women Voters of Florida.
