    NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Newport News man has been arrested following the death of a 1-year-old child. Police say Zai-Twond Perry, 25, someone known to the child's family, is charged with second-degree murder and felony child neglect for the child’s death. Just before 8 a.m., on April 5, officers responded to the 0 block of Cedar Avenue in reference to an unresponsive child. Police located a one-year-old male child who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    In just under two weeks, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will require Virginia residents to have a REAL ID to board an airplane.. Starting May 7, passengers who present a state-issued identification that is not a REAL ID may face delays and the possibility of not being permitted into the security checkpoint. If a traveler’s driver’s license is not REAL ID compliant, they will need another form of approved identification.

    PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Port of Virginia can now accommodate larger container vessels following the arrival of new equipment, according to the Port Authority. Earlier this month, the port installed four electric cranes at the Virginia International Gateway. With these new cranes, the port now has the capacity to handle three large container vessels at once, the Port said.

The Portsmouth Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Victim-Witness program partnered to host an honor ceremony event for National Crime Victims Week.
