For many, the night is a time of escape and peace, but for the majority of my life, it’s been one of my worst enemies. As a kid, I believed that if I let my eyes shut, I’d awake to everyone gone. There was this dread that would bubble in my throat along with a queasiness in my stomach. The anxiety would make me nauseous and wane my focus. The thoughts consumed my mind and left me jittery and restless. My dad didn’t live with us and only visited a few times a year.

This break began a chain of events that would eventually lead Alex to leave his job. As an individual with depersonalization-derealization disorder (DPDR), Alex found himself starting to stumble over words and becoming unfocused. Alex often relies on taking short breaks during long periods of focus in order to keep his disassociation in check.

AMS VP Finance Gavin Fung-Quon is taking a leave of absence due to “personal reasons,” according to a statement from President Christian ‘CK’ Kyle to The Ubyssey. “We extend our sincere gratitude to Gavin for his dedication to students and his tireless efforts to enhance our campus community and wish him the very best during his time away,” wrote CK.
AMS to hold a by-election for VP AUA in coming weeks

The AMS will be holding a by-election for VP academic and university affairs (AUA) after previous VP AUA Drédyn Fontana was removed from office. On October 9, Council passed a motion from the EPA Committee to consider Fontana's "poor performance" in his role as VP AUA, among other concerns. On November 6, AMS Council approved a motion to remove Fontana six months into his term, effective immediately.
