As students filtered into UBC on March 24 and 25 they were met with the booming chants — and at times songs — of pro-Palestine protesters. On March 14, the student-proposed referendum asking the AMS to endorse a two-day strike to demand UBC divest from companies students say are complicit in Palestinian human rights violations passed with 7,917 students (76 per cent of 11,365 voters) in favour of the action. On March 18, Israel broke a two-month ceasefire that began on January 19.

Ahead of the final voting day, Vancouver-Point Grey candidates gathered in the Life Building's Norm Theatre for a debate hosted by the AMS and moderates by The Ubyssey. BC Green Party candidate Dr. Devyani Singh and BC NDP Vancouver-Hastings candidate Niki Sharma attended the debate. Sharma was a proxy for Vancouver-Point Grey candidate David Eby. Vancouver-Point Grey BC Conservative candidate Paul Ratchford was invited to the debate by the AMS, but did not attend.

Too many bookings, not enough rooms, says VP adminVP Admin Amy Liao discussed challenges with the AMS's room booking services. Between May and October, Liao said there have been 790 room booking applications. “The demand for free spaces on campus has really increased,” said Liao.
