Over 200 individuals, who came in contact with the affected families of the 17 people who died due to the mysterious illness in Rajouri, have been quarantined as a precautionary measure, an official said on Thursday. Four people, including three sisters, have been shifted to hospitals, with three airlifted to a hospital in Jammu.

Three new cases of a ‘mysterious illness’ have emerged in the Badhaal area of Rajouri district, raising further concerns after 17 unexplained deaths were reported in the village over the past 50 days. An official stated that on Tuesday, a 25-year-old youth, Aijaz Ahmad, exhibited symptoms of the illness. He was initially treated at GMC Jammu before being shifted to PGI Chandigarh for advanced medical care.

Unable to pinpoint the cause behind the mysterious deaths of 17 people in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, authorities on Wednesday declared Budhaal village as a containment zone under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The District Magistrate of Rajouri issued the containment order following recent health concerns in the area.
