RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann — Chief Justice Bryan Sykes has rejected suggestions that the Court Administration Division (CAD) is to be blamed for the shoddy state of the country’s courthouses. “In 2016 the CAD was placed on a statutory footing under the chief justice and, even with that, capital expenditure was — and still is — the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice,” Sykes said Monday morning at Jewel Paradise Cove in Runaway Bay, St Ann.

One man is in custody following the seizure of an illegal firearm and ammunition during a routine patrol in Bamboo, St Ann on Friday night. He is 28-year-old Shaniel Hickling of King Hill, Bamboo in the parish. Reports are that Hickling was accosted and searched in the vicinity of Hazelwood Square. A 9MM silver and black Zastava pistol with a magazine containing eight rounds and a transparent plastic bag containing an additional eight rounds were reportedly taken from him.
