In 2011 when music producer and radio jock ZJ Chrome released the Cardiac Bass rhythm project, little did he know that 14 years later, one of the songs, Paper Loving by Christopher Martin would earn a certification by the British Phonographic Industry. On Friday, Paper Loving was certified silver for sales and streaming equivalent of 200,000 units. This comes two years after Martin earned a gold certification in Germany for the song To The Top featuring German reggae artiste Gentleman.

BY KEVIN JACKSONJamaica (Jamaica Observer) – On Sunday when dancehall artiste Elephant Man learnt that Whine Up, a 2007 collaboration that he was featured on with American singer Kat Deluna, made Rolling Stone Magazine’s 50 Best One-Hit Wonders of the 2000s list, the deejay got ecstatic. The list, which was released on May 22, captures the songs that made the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. Whine Up ranks at #37 on the list.

Dancehall artiste Jah Teff believes that more creativity and authenticity are needed if dancehall is to reclaim its rightful place on the global music scene. St James native who now resides in New York made the assertion in an interview with Observer Online earlier this week. “I think that what we can do as an industry to bring dancehall music back on the forefront of the international music scene is to try and be more creative with the rhythms.

For his debut musical project, Nannyville dancehall artiste Rushawn decided that he wanted to work with the best of the best. With 12 tracks, the EP titled WYHR (Why Y’all Hate Rushawn), was released on Friday. It features production work from several well-known as well as established producers. Hours after its release, the project soared to #1 on the US iTunes Reggae Albums chart, removing Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend from the top spot to #2.

On Saturday he will be in action at a Mother’s Day brunch at the Police Officers Club in St Andrew and on Sunday he heads to Old Harbour, St Catherine for an event called Star Mom. Later this month, DJ Smurf will take patrons back in time to relive the hits of yesteryear at the Footloose retro party. In June, he’s booked for another retro party, Mello Vibes.
