Environmental Center changes accommodate growth

Visitors to the Carver County Environmental Center can expect to see some changes in operation beginning in June. The changes were agreed to at a county board work session earlier this month in response to steady growth in use of the waste collection and recycling facility since it opened in 2002. The center last year took in more than 3 million pounds of waste from 40,000 vehicle visits, according to Brad Hanzel, Environmental Services manager.

Waconia grad returns home to film 'passion project'

Waconia has been a shooting location for at least a couple of movies — most notably the 1999 dark comedy “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” Now, a film crew was at the old Waconia Fire Station last week, April 17-18, for a new movie production. The latest film is a senior capstone project for Cami Bertossi, a video production studies major at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Despite funding cuts to all sorts of federal programs and state budget shortfalls that the Minnesota Legislature continues to wrestle with this session, a full package of transportation projects is moving forward across Carver County. Of 20-plus road projects that were first proposed at the county level in 2021, all but two have been constructed, are starting construction this year, or are targeted to launch in 2026 and 2027.
