ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Talk of any weather system expected to bring heavy rains used to have residents around Lake Charlene in Warrington on pins and needles. The area -- hit hard by flooding over the years. A major drainage and flood mitigation project recently completed there has eased some fears for residents. Flash back to 2014, the Nolan's home on Lake Charlene Drive flooded by a foot of water.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. -- Santa Rosa County has a new ordinance that takes effect Monday. It allows alcohol to be sold within 2,500 feet of a church or school. The law only applies to Highway 98 in south Santa Rosa County. Some leaders say the change was needed, while others are not happy about it. The volume of traffic is high on Highway 98 in south Santa Rosa County -- and so is the number of churches and schools along the roadway.

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Festivities took place all around Pensacola Sunday night to ring in the new year. 200 South in Downtown Pensacola prepared for hundreds of revelers with a sight they won’t soon forget, as nearly 3,000 balloons rained down from above at midnight. "We're excited to have everybody here having fun and enjoying it," said Lindsay Jordan, general manager. The balloon dropping at O’Riley’s Irish Pub was filled with surprises.

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A charity ball held in Downtown Pensacola Saturday night will help supply food and toys to underprivileged children this Christmas. PCS Outreach Ministries hosted the fundraising event. The charitable organization has been giving away food and Christmas toys for 18 years. In that time, more than 30,000 children in the local area have benefited. Organizers say events like this make it all possible.
