LOUDON CO., Tenn. (WVLT) - Thousands travel I-75 each day in East Tennessee, but there’s been more than 20 crashes in the last month on a particular stretch of Loudon County that’s causing concerns for officials. Loudon County Sheriff Jimmy Davis said his deputies are called out to that stretch nearly every day. To stay safe, he said patrols are on the rise, but he urges drivers to stay mindful on the road.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The deadline for the community to share their thoughts on the City of Knoxville’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan is May 31. The department is updating its master plan for the first time in 15 years. Parks and Recreation officials said Knoxville has grown quickly, especially in the last five years and that this is the time to get peoples’ opinion on how to improve parks around the city.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A special service was held on Monday at the Veterans Memorial in World’s Fair Park. Dozens of people gathered to show their pride and honor for the men and women who laid down their life. The overall message from veterans was to not take anything for granted. Dr. Pat Polis is an eight year army veteran. He said Memorial Day is a sacred day. “I owe a debt of gratitude to the people that have served before and to those who I served with,” Polis said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Lifeguards will be stationed at the Knoxville Parks and Recreation outdoor pools starting Memorial Day weekend. Director Sheryl Ely said they were able to hire lifeguards despite the national lifeguard shortage. The American Lifeguard Association said the shortage is an ongoing issue that could impact more than 300,000 public pools in the country. “We have enough to open and manage our pools,” Ely said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - An EF-1 tornado touched down in Cumberland County on Tuesday. The National Weather Service said wind speeds were 105 mph, lasting for nearly five miles.
