In a freezer outside Giving Aroha founder Jackie Galland’s Nelson home, a man stole roasts and frozen chickens last week. While the 2am theft was caught on camera, the man’s face was not visible. The perpetrator was just centimetres away from her bedroom window.

    A fine dining restaurant in Central Otago has become the first New Zealand establishment to make an influential 'world's best' list. Amisfield Restaurant has been ranked in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 51-100 list for 2025. Executive chef Vaughan Mabee’s restaurant placed 99th in the listing which is compiled from votes of more than 1000 culinary experts, including chefs, food writers and global gastronomes.

    A man convicted of a burglary in which he lit fires and defaced walls as part of an exorcism near Nelson has failed in his appeal to overturn both his conviction and sentence. The loss concludes a drawn-out legal process for Aaron Alexander, in which he represented himself throughout. The appeal was dismissed in the Court of Appeal this week after he was found guilty in September 2023 following a five-day jury trial in the Nelson District Court. He chose not to give or call evidence.

    Spare a thought for the 221 passengers on a recent flight in Europe who ended up on a long detour without any sleep and after their flight missed an airport’s curfew by just 10 seconds. Condor flight DE1513 was originally set to depart Palma de Mallorca at 8.35pm and land in Munich at 10.40pm on June 2 (local time), but it suffered a two-hour delay.
