Southwestern College’s Debate Team returned from the Cross Examination Debate Association National Tournament held at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey in March with notable accomplishments. Baron Castanares and Pia Maria Flores, placed second in the Novice category. This marks the first time since the 1970s Southwestern College competed in a National Championship round. The debate was decided on a very close 2-1 decision.

The highly anticipated Sweetwater Park on the Chula Vista bayfront is now open to the public after a grand celebration was held on April 3. The grand opening of this park, part of the Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment project, included attendants from the Port of San Diego, City of Chula Vista, project partners, community members, and Chula Vista Elementary School District students.
