There are exceptions to a Pennsylvania rule barring attorneys from soliciting potential clients via text messages, according to the head of the state's Office of Disciplinary Counsel. In a recent declaration, ODC chief disciplinary counsel Thomas J. Farrell clarified that texts advertising legal services are permissible so long as the recipient does not have the ability to respond to the message directly.

Hundreds of lawyers gathered outside of Philadelphia City Hall on Thursday to retake the attorney’s oath and show support for the rule of law. The rally was one of more than 50 gatherings coordinated across the United States as part of a National Law Day of Action. The Day of Action was planned in reaction to increasing attacks on judges and rising distrust in the legal system, but despite the political cloud hanging over those issues, organizers took care to keep the messaging nonpartisan.
