The Anchorage Assembly is poised to consider repealing a measure that went into effect just two months ago, mandating identification checks for anyone purchasing alcohol, no matter how old they look. In a near-unanimous action, the Anchorage Assembly on Tuesday increased a tax break meant to help the city’s small businesses overcome challenges that include rising costs related to President Donald Trump’s trade war. The ordinance provides a $100,000 exemption for taxes paid by businesses on personal property such as equipment, vehicles, computers, furnishings and supplies that they use in their operations. Starting Jan. 1, the new tax break replaces the $20,000 exemption in place since 2005.
