    The beginnings of hot honey in the United States can be attributed to Brazil in the early 2000s, when Mike Kurtz came upon a pizzeria that offered whole chile peppers drenched in a jar of honey. It fused solid and liquid, sweet and spicy, into one flavorful sticky and crunchy drizzle that made for a jazzed-up pizza topping with a unique consistency. Kurtz went on to introduce the phenomenon to Brooklyn pizza joints in 2010 and became the founder of Mike’s Hot Honey.
