Emergency services have cordoned off a building site where an air ambulance has landed. Police officers and paramedics have been called to Barton Hill Drive, Minster, on Sheppey, this afternoon (May 28). Around four police vehicles and four ambulances have been spotted on the site, as well as the medical helicopter. The former farmland is currently being developed by Persimmon Homes to create a 700-home estate.

A burglar was caught in the act stealing multiple packs of cigarettes from a supermarket. Police patrols were alerted to an alarm sounding at Tesco Express, in Henderson Drive, Dartford, at around 1.45am on Sunday (May 25). Arriving at the scene, officers saw that a window at the front of the store had been smashed and there was movement inside. They then approached the premises where Tom O’Neil raised his hands and surrendered to the constables.

A busy street has been shut indefinitely for emergency works. Station Road, in Strood, is closed at its junction with the High Street to allow SGN engineers to investigate a reported gas leak. To allow the utility firm to repair the network safely, the highway has been closed since 9am today (May 27). However, it is not known when it is expected to be reopened.

A “devastating” fire which ripped through a block of flats was caused by an unattended cigarette, the fire service has said. Twelve families lost their homes due to the building blaze in Nursery Grove, Gravesend, last Tuesday (May 20). The emergency services, including fire crews, police and paramedics, were called to the Moat housing association-owned block shortly before 3.30pm. At its height, eight fire engines, a height vehicle and a bulk water carrier were in attendance.

A convict who killed his mother 30 years ago and then shot a pensioner in the leg after being released has died in prison. Brian Acott was waiting to be freed from jail and placed into suitable accommodation when he passed away from cancer. He was first jailed in June 1995 for brutally killing his 78-year-old mother, Ivy, at her bungalow in Marshall Road, Rainham, two years before.
