A 45-year-old woman was shot to death Monday morning in Odenton, Anne Arundel County Police said. Officers responded around 10:15 a.m. to the 1800 block of Bucklina Avenue for reports of a shooting, Sgt. Chris Anderson, a department spokesman, said in an email. Once there, officers found the woman, who appeared to be suffering from a single gunshot wound, Anderson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A new speed camera near an elementary school in Glen Burnie is going live Thursday, Anne Arundel County Police said. Installed near Oakwood Elementary in the 300 block of Oak Manor Drive, the new camera represents an expansion of the county’s efforts to curtail dangerous driving. Anne Arundel officials in April touted the installation of six new speed cameras near schools and the activation of the first two red light cameras in the county in May.

More than a year away from the primary election, three people already are running to succeed Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman in 2026. Like Pittman, the three candidates are Democrats. No Republicans have announced, but the deadline to file is in February 2026. Councilwoman Allison Pickard, who represents the Glen Burnie area, was the first to declare her candidacy, in December.

The Anne Arundel County Council caused a stir this week by slashing the budget for County Executive Steuart Pittman’s $1.5 million proposed investment in the county’s nascent public campaign financing system. The council approved a budget amendment cutting $1.25 million from Pittman’s request. Several lawmakers said they could add money later and would prefer in the meantime to use those dollars for public safety, schools and libraries.
