Since 1944, Pacific Mercantile Company has been a rare source of Asian groceries and goods in downtown Denver. Now, the family that has operated the grocery store has been immortalized in a new mural at Sakura Square. The mural was designed and painted by Casey Kawaguchi, a Japanese-American artist, using funds provided by Denver City Council member Chris Hinds. It’s a companion to a similar mural on the other side of the building.

Our friends are putting on a gig — and it’s a bit bigger than a house show. Indie 102.3 is presenting the first-ever Indieverse festival, a one-day event at Levitt Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 13. The development is slated for 150 acres at the northwest corner of 56th Avenue and Tower Road, backed by the companies Kensington Development Partners and IM Properties. Initial renderings show a community that looks a lot like Denver’s Central Park.

It’s open season for Casa Bonita summertime reservations — and the competition is fierce. The Denver icon’s reservation portal opened at 9 a.m. on Monday for chances at a date between June 1 and Sept. 7. But the scene awaiting fans once again resembled that of a Ticketmaster sale: When I hopped into the queue shortly after 10 a.m., more than 10,000 people were ahead of me.
