Duncan Murray has lived in Dunblane all his life and knows his hometown like the back of his hand. No gallivanting across the globe (say to France, Australia or Wimbledon) for Duncan. He’s Dunblane through and through. He’s also fictional – the unfortunate ‘other Murray brother’ who couldn’t play tennis, made up by Scottish comedian Chris Forbes. Judy Murray, mother of Sir Andy and Jamie, got in on the joke in 2019, and the result was so convincing, lots of people still don’t realise it’s a joke.

A plan to build more than 400 new homes in Cowie, south of Stirling, has taken another step forward. Developer Taylor Wimpey has submitted detailed design and construction proposals for 417 properties on brownfield land south of Bannockburn Road and north-west of Cowie Bowling Club, known as Berryhills. Stirling Council is to purchase 36 affordable homes at South Stirling Gateway, after a committee approved the procurement process. Persimmon Homes will build the properties as part of phase one of its Brucefields housing development near Bannockburn. Designs include cottage flats, houses and bungalows, all with between two and four bedrooms. The majority are to be two or three-bed houses. Once in place, the 36 council-owned homes will be made available for social rent.

A Forth Valley College (FVC) project saw £76,000 of public funding paid into non-college bank accounts, prompting a police investigation, an audit has found. A review of the institution’s 2022-23 accounts by Scotland’s auditor general has revealed the details of the Fuel Change project’s “series of failings”. FVC says it has made significant progress in “strengthening the processes for college-run projects”.

There’s been a totem pole in a garden in Stirling for more than a decade now. I spoke to its charming 88-year-old owner to find out the full story. But the piece I ended up writing isn’t about a totem pole at all, really - it’s about love and loss https://t.co/pSHuW8Mb5L
