TULSA, Okla. — Zink Lake is gearing up to make a splash, as it undergoes final testing ahead of its Labor Day Weekend opening. On Thursday, semi-professional kayakers and surfers put the whitewater flumes to the test, checking both the recreational aspects and safety of the waves and currents. Lars Osterhold, the Engineer of Record for the Zink Dam Modifications project, said construction began in October 2020 and is nearly complete.

Beggs residents tell 2 News Oklahoma they're ready for the upgrade. Annette Willis said tornado sirens cannot be heard from Beggs. During thunderstorms, she stays glued to the TV to stay informed. "I'm scared to go to sleep at night. I can't depend on anything waking me up besides my telephone," she said.

BARNSDALL, Okla. — The American Red Cross and its partners set up a multiagency resource center at Barnsdall Elementary School's gym to provide assistance to those affected by the May 6 tornado. Mary Jane Coffman, Disaster Program Manager with the American Red Cross of Oklahoma, said the center offers financial assistance, legal advice, gift cards, and debris cleanup help. OSU-COM honors first class of Native American graduates

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Oklahoma State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Cherokee Nation is celebrating its first graduating class. On May 14, the school honored the Native American graduates at Cherokee Casino Tahlequah. This year, 15% of OSU's medical school graduates are tribal, according to OSU President Dr. Kayse Shrum. That's by far the highest rate of any medical school in the nation.

HENRYETTA, Okla. — Dozens of motorcyclists rode through the streets of Henryetta on Sunday to honor the memory of five teenagers who were killed in a murder-suicide last year. The victims, Brittany Brewer, 16, Rylee Allen, 17, Tiffany Guess, 13, Michael Mayo, 15, and Ivy Webster, 14, were among the six people killed by convicted rapist Jesse McFadden in May 2023. The sixth victim was Holly Guess McFadden, 35, before taking his own life.
