    Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute gave notice Thursday that it will lay off over 150 employees across 11 campuses by July 14. Layoffs will affect numerous positions, from physicians to administrative work, and occur between May 30 and July 14, as reported by Times-Union news partner First Coast News. The layoffs will take place in two waves: Wave one will begin May 30 and end June 13. Wave two will begin June 30 and end July 13.

    Duval County's first "lagoon community" is set to open later this year. Diamond Springs on Normandy Boulevard will feature 2,700 single-family and townhomes from Lennar, D.R. Horton, DRB Homes and Dream Finders Homes. The lagoon and full amenity center will range from 5 to 15 acres in size. Tampa-based Metro Development Group, founded in 2003, develops "inland coastal living" communities, including its signature MetroLagoon.

    Plans for Jacksonville's first Mormon Temple are officially underway with a location chosen and rendering announced. The church announced plans for a 6.6-acre property at 3323 Loretto Road in Mandarin. Described as “a single-story building of approximately 29,000 square feet” with a single attached central tower, two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms and a baptistry, this will be the fifth LDS Temple in Florida.

    Plans are underway to integrate historic Ambassador Hotel, at 420 North Julia St., into Pearl Square development. Gateway Jax, a Jacksonville-based commercial real estate development firm, this week announced preliminary plans for the Ambassador Hotel property, which first opened in 1924. The company plans to restore the hotel with the partnership of The Indigo Road Hospitality Group (IRHG), a leading hospitality group that specializes in restaurant and hotel concepts.
