TORONTO (AP) – Julia Gosling scored twice in a 1:55 span in the second period and the Toronto Sceptres beat the defending champion Minnesota Frost 3-2 on Wednesday night in Game 1 of the PWHL semifinal series. Game 2 of the best-of-five series is Friday night in Toronto. Gosling made it 2-0 at 7:47 and struck again at 9:42 on a power play. Blayre Turnbull opened the scoring midway through the first, and Kristen Campbell stopped 24 shots.

Duluth East baseball spoils Hibbing's perfect startThe Duluth East baseball team knocked off Hibbing 4-3 Wednesday afternoon, spoiling the Bluejackets’ perfect start to their season. The Greyhounds took the lead 1-0 in the first, but Hibbing responded with two runs in the top of the second to lead 2-1. Duluth East answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to take back the lead 3-2.

The Sauk Centre, Minnesota native has been named the next head coach of Sauk Centre girls basketball. Thiesen spent one season as an assistant coach for UMD (2023-2024), after playing five years with the Bulldogs from 2018 to 2023.
