The Hermantown/Proctor boys lacrosse team dropped their home opener to Moorhead 7-1 Friday night in Hermantown. The Spuds led 3-0 at halftime, then James Dailey scored the sole goal for the Stealth in the third quarter. Carter Midthune had four goals for the Spuds. Hermantown/Proctor falls to 1-2 on the season. They’re next scheduled to visit Superior Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m. They are next set to be home Tuesday, May 6 when they host Cloquet-Esko-Carlton at 7 p.m. at Hermantown High School.

The Duluth East softball team earned their first win of the season Friday defeating Silver Bay 6-1 in Duluth. The Mariners scored first in the second inning thanks to a Callie Ernest RBI. However it was all Greyhounds from there, with Jossie Filiatrault bringing in Maizy Smith and Brianna Kempf for their first two runs of the game. Duluth East now sits 1-2 on the season and next visits Rock Ridge Monday, April 21 at 3 p.m. Silver Bay (2-2) next hosts North Woods Monday at 4 p.m.

UWS men's and women's tennis take home wins against NorthwesternThe University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s and women’s tennis teams shut out the University of Northwestern 7-0 Friday in Superior to stay perfect in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. The Yellowjacket women won two of their three doubles matches, with Kate Jonas and Claudia Curtis winning on court two, and Elif Oezen and Brooke Wilfong winning on court three. UWS then swept singles play to earn the 7-0 win.

Ashland baseball posts double digit runs to take down Rice LakeThe Ashland baseball team scored a whopping 18 runs against Rice Lake Friday to earn the 18-7 victory during the Superior tournament at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The Oredockers’ 18 runs came off 14 hits, while the Rice Lake Warriors’ seven runs came off seven hits. Ashland improves their win streak to three and now sits 4-1 so far on the season.

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) softball team earned a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader sweep over Northern State University Friday in Duluth. The Bulldogs took game one 6-3 then game two 9-1. During game two, UMD senior Nicole Schmitt hit her 16th home run tying the single season program record set by Jessica Bren in 2018. In game one, UMD scored one run in the second and fourth innings, then allowed three in the top of the fifth to trail 3-2.
