SUPERIOR — A sweet new food truck welcomed repeat customers to its South Superior site Saturday, May 31. The Corn Dog Company of Superior had its opening weekend May 24-25. The business, owned by Christina “Nina” and Brandon Derick, of Superior, specializes in fresh, all-beef hot dogs dipped in batter, fried and drizzled with honey.

SUPERIOR — The number of police reports generated at Superior schools and a peek at what the 2025-2026 school year budget could look like were discussed at the Superior School Board Committee of the Whole meeting Monday, June 2. Their project — a music video starring hundreds of students and more than a dozen hit tunes — is scheduled to start playing on the Spartan Spin YouTube channel on Friday. GORDON — A new gravel bike race invites participants to travel the backroads of Douglas County while helping preserve history. The inaugural Gordon Pine Barrens 50 race is on June 14 in Gordon. The race course will take bikers through a rustic landscape and along the Eau Claire and St. Croix rivers. In addition to the 50-mile race, there will be a 25-mile event. E-bikes are allowed on the 25-mile course, which will be untimed.

HAWTHORNE — A vehicle rollover in the town of Hawthorne led to the arrest of a Poplar man for allegedly driving a vehicle while intoxicated a fifth time. Nicholas Fredrick Krivinchuk, 36, faces felony counts of fifth-offense operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, as well as one misdemeanor count of operating while revoked. He made his initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court May 21.

LAKE NEBAGAMON — A small-town tradition will return to Lake Nebagamon this summer under a new name. Based out of the former Dairy Queen building overlooking the lake, Dairy & Bean will offer ice cream treats and coffee during the summer months. “The idea is to try to keep as close as possible to everybody’s favorite types of treats they’re used to seeing and add some coffee drinks, too,” said owner Ed Schwarz, who lives in the Twin Cities.
