One of Minnesota’s go-to places for fabric, JoAnn Fabrics, has closed for good. The company filed for bankruptcy, shut down all its stores, and liquidated its inventory. Craft retailer Michael’s acquired JoAnn’s intellectual property and private-label brands. This once hugely popular way to watch movies has mostly disappeared across the country, with only a handful of locations left, but one of the best is right here in Wisconsin. During their peak in the 1950s and 60s, there were more than 4,000 drive-in movie theaters in the United States. Today, there are just over 300, a staggering 90% drop. Drive-in theaters remained popular into the late 80s and early 90s, with an estimated 2,000 still showing films.
