The Forsyth fire has grown to nearly 6,000 acres, with 0% containment as of Sunday afternoon. The wind-driven wildfire, which has been raging since Thursday, has burned over a dozen homes in Pine Valley. It was last mapped on June 20 at 1,640 acres, but, according to a Facebook post shared by Dixie National Forest, it has since reached 5,660 acres.

Rocky Mountain Power warned that nearly 18,000 people in Southern and central Utah could lose power Saturday, due to wildfire risk. In an email sent to customers Thursday morning, the company states that "significant wildfire risk and expected high, gusty winds" may prompt it to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff as a safety precaution. Areas affected include Cedar City, Enterprise, Beaver, Parowan, Enoch, New Harmony, Panguitch, Richfield and Central, among others.

St. George Police guarded the a church parking lot entrance Thursday morning, after a garbage truck made an emergency dump of burning trash on the asphalt. The fire started in the back of a Republic Services garbage truck shortly before 8:40 a.m., prompting the driver to dump the load behind a chapel owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1150 N. 1400 West, said St. George Fire Capt. Justin Ray, who was acting as a battalion chief. The fire's cause is unknown, Ray noted.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for parts of Southern Utah as the France Canyon Fire near Hatch has grown to nearly 1,500 acres. On Sunday morning, the weather service issued a red flag warning for parts of central and Southern Utah, including Beaver, Washington, Iron, Kane and Garfield counties. The warning will be in effect Monday from noon to midnight due to fire weather — a combination of wind and low relative humidity.

St. George Mayor Michele Randall, Elite Paleontologist and Museum Curator Andrew Milner and Utah State University Eastern student Jason Lunt took questions from the audience about the future of the fossil site, recent discoveries and other topics.
