(WDBJ) - Community Leaders joined Attorney General Jason Miyares as they spoke about how parents can protect their kids from online dangers. “I will tell you this the day you gave your child a smartphone with no filters, with no time limits, with no protection, is the day that your child’s innocence dies, end of story,” said Miyares. As access to the online world becomes more available for kids, Miyares says protecting kids from online dangers becomes more of a necessity.

Many people are trying to cool off at the annual Roanoke River Floatilla event. “Nothing beats an excuse to get on the river. BATH COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Board of Supervisors made heavy school budget cuts leaving the school board to weigh the option of cutting all pre-school programs. After Bath County’s Board of Supervisors decided to cut the school board budget by $400,000. The Board is wavery the decision of closing all preschool programs at the schools. “It’s kind of sad. Because our kids are our future,” said parent Michelle Dressler. She planned to enroll her four-year-old son in pre-k.

Within 24 hours, four people in our area have been charged with sexual offenses involving kids. “We’re not necessarily going to prosecute our way out of this problem. It’s going to be a lot of education on the front end,” said Captain Stephen Anders with Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children, or ICAC.

(WDBJ) - After several months of discussion Salem City Council has approved the rezoning on the HopeTree Property. “I’ve heard from people all over the city providing a variety of input,” said Mayor Renee Turk. HopeTree started as an orphanage more than 130 years ago, at one time serving more than 450 children, but times have changed, and its mission has evolved. Now with a vote of 3 to 2, The HopeTree Family Services property will be rezoned.

This policy requires schools to let parents know when a student identifies as transgender. Lynchburg Public Schools adopted Governor Glenn Youngkin’s policy regarding transgender students Tuesday night, with a vote of 6-3. “My opinion is that implementing this policy is the right thing to do.
