1-minute readBELMAR — First responders remained at the scene Sunday of a fire that destroyed two homes on 13th Avenue and damaged at least two others. Belmar firefighters and members of the Monmouth County Fire Marshals Office were at the scene Sunday morning, where firefighters continued to wet down hotspots from the morning blaze. Belmar Fire Chief Sean Pringle said the fire started on the porch of the home at 306 13th Avenue. "Upon our arrival, the house at 306 was fully involved," he said.

BARNEGAT — Angry parents and residents filled the media center of Barnegat High School on Wednesday night to protest the mistreatment of an 8-year-old girl with autism, who was allegedly tied with tape in her classroom. The crowd came to urge the Board of Education to fire five school employees — one teacher and four support staff members — who were accused of being involved or present when a girl's mouth, wrists and ankles were allegedly covered or tied with tape.

OCEANPORT -- The students rolled small wheelbarrows, miniature shopping carts and doll strollers through the halls of Maple Place Middle School on Wednesday morning. Others carried laundry baskets loaded with their books as well as cans and boxes of food. It was part of the middle school's "Everything But a Backpack" event, where Oceanport students and staff used their unusual carryalls to bring not just their usual books and supplies to school, but also donations of nonperishable food.
