Charles “Chas” Bonasorte, owner of the Pitt Stop and former Pitt linebacker, passed away in December at the age of 70 after a six-year battle with cancer. Bonasorte owned and operated the Pitt Stop, the iconic Pitt merch vendor on Forbes and Bigelow, for 35 years. Community members say Bonasorte’s passing is a profound loss for the Pittsburgh community. A Hazelwood native and MVP of his football team at Bishop Boyle High School, Bonasorte grew up attending Pitt home games with his uncle and father.

Picture this — it’s Oct. 27, and you’re strolling through the streets of New York City. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and you suddenly see a horde of people. You certainly do a double take when you see a few of the bystanders dressed up as Willy Wonka, sporting top hats and purple overcoats.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Kamala Harris conceded the presidential race to her opponent, Donald Trump. Harris’s campaign was full of joy and hope for her supporters, and the loss devastated the many marginalized communities that fear Trump’s conservative social beliefs and proposed policies. As someone with many friends who are queer or people of color, and as a woman myself, I was also consumed by dread at what Trump’s presidency could mean for my future. How could I possibly protect my friends?

After months — or for some, years — of living there, residents of Chesterfield Street in West Oakland are still coexisting with a concentrated and invasive rat infestation. Students say they often experience rats chewing through their trash, running across their feet or trying to enter their homes.
