A University spokesperson released a statement to those who witnessed the incident, saying the behavior will not be tolerated by the university. During the lecture event in the O’Hara Ballroom, a racial slur and a drawing of a penis appeared on the screen behind Cook minutes into her talk.

As summer draws nearer, state lawmakers in Harrisburg will soon decide how much funding they will grant to Pitt for the 2025-2026 school year. Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposed state budget includes flat funding for Pennsylvania’s four state-related universities, with an additional $60 million to be distributed among Pitt, Penn State, Temple and Lincoln through the Performance-Based Funding Council established last July.

To rattle off just the few I’ve had the viewing pleasure of enduring — 2018’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” 2019’s “Rocketman,” 2019’s “Judy,” 2021’s “tick, tick… BOOM!,” 2022’s “Elvis,” 2023’s “Maestro,” 2023’s “Priscilla,” 2024’s “Back to Black” and most recently 2024’s “A Complete Unknown.” In fact, 2024 alone saw 17 biopic releases.

On Nov. 20, Pitt’s Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Advocacy Committee (EIADAC) voted to recommend establishing an Ad Hoc Committee on Antisemitism. But in an email one week later, Faculty Senate members learned the executive committee is “no longer pursuing” the creation of the ad hoc committee. According to Bridget Keown, co-chair of EIADAC, the process was delayed to assemble a group better equipped to handle the committee’s sensitive focus and ensure greater inclusivity.

As election day begins, out-of-state Pitt students have changed their voter registration to Pennsylvania to make a difference in the election — primarily because of Pennsylvania’s status as a swing state. Swing states change over time, but during this election cycle, seven states fit the bill — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. These states carry a combined 93 electoral votes that both candidates are actively pursuing.

Sen. Bob Casey spoke about reproductive health care this election season, saying “the time is now” to fight to restore Roe v. Wade. “There will not be another time six months from now to get this right, there will not be another time a year from now to get this right,” Casey said. “This is the moment. This election is the moment for us to take a substantial step forward and make sure that Roe can be restored.”Casey visited the Community Forge Center in Wilkinsburg on Nov. 1.

On Thursday evening, Pitt (7-0, 3-0 ACC) took down Syracuse (5-2, 2-2 ACC) 41-13 in a conference matchup at Acrisure Stadium that held high season implications. With this victory, the Panthers remain unbeaten, their first 7-0 start since 1982. The Panthers went into this game looking to continue their historic season, while the Orange, with only one loss, hoped to keep its season alive in a tightly contested ACC race.

Things were heating up in Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon when U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost came to campus (D-FL) to foster support for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign. Frost visited Downtown Pittsburgh for a press conference at the Allegheny County Democratic Committee office building, ending his Pittsburgh tour on Pitt’s campus with a tabling event in Towers lobby hosted by College Democrats at Pitt.
