(WKYT) - Honor Flight Kentucky is celebrating its tenth year of taking veterans from central and eastern Kentucky to the nation’s capital to see the memorials and monuments built in their honor. Recently, WKYT’s Amber Philpott traveled with Honor Flight Kentucky to Washington, D.C., to witness the trip through the eyes of 59 Kentucky heroes and their guardians. The trip is free for all veterans and open to those who served between 1941 and 1975.

There is a celebration of life that happens trackside with 150 breast and ovarian cancer survivors walking the track in honor of beating cancer for the annual Survivors Parade. One of those taking part in the 17th annual event Friday is a Texas gal now living in Kentucky horse country.
