In “Venus in the Sea,” the blushing lead single from Ha Vay’s 2023 EP Avalanches and Unfamiliar Ways to Die, the singer-songwriter wails “enraptured in the bluest dark, I captured your beating heart.” Just over a year later on her debut album Baby I’m The Wolf (2024), Ha Vay enraptures us all over again. Here, Ha Vay plucks Venus out of the sea and drops her into the bleeding heart of the forest, extending a hand to us so that we may follow her down the rabbit hole.

All of Georgetown’s campus is a runway for Akil Cole (CAS ’24). “I find myself practicing my walk on my way to school. I’ll have my book bag, people might see me locked in with my face, and I’m doing my model walk,” he said. Cole is a two-time model for Georgetown’s annual Diamanté Fashion Show, and cites his tendency to sashay to class as a welcome side effect of practicing for the after-hours role.

As classes started at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) this August, college students went into lockdown after a graduate student shot and killed associate professor Zijie Yan. On Sept. 12, survivors of the shooting protested at the North Carolina state legislature in favor of stronger gun control, joining a generation of activists questioning how legislation protects the lives and safety of students in response to campus mass shootings.

The Friendship Arch, which was built in the style of Qing-dynasty architecture, marks the entrance to the historical neighborhood. The archway evokes a splendor that showcases the vibrancy of traditional Chinese culture, a liveliness that is no longer reflected in the neighborhood that lies beyond it.

Recent student efforts led by members of the Asian–Pacific Islander Leadership Forum (APILF) have restored the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) home, which is slated to open in fall 2023. First established in 2015 after AAPI students expressed their interest in an on-campus affinity space, the home had shut down for the past few years due to COVID-19 and insufficient funding.
