As America’s fastest-growing sport continues its rise in Petaluma, a local nonprofit has found a new place for covered courts with lots of room, at least temporarily: the Petaluma Fairgrounds. Petaluma Fairgrounds Pickleball, founded by Chad and Lisa Lichty, has partnered with the city to bring new, removable courts to the centrally located fairgrounds.

Petaluma’s annual Westside Relays is a special event every year for students, their families and school staff from around the region. But this year’s competition – held May 19-20 at Petaluma High School – was extra special as it marked the event’s 50th year. The two-day track and field event, open to elementary school students from all local school districts, got its start in 1975 thanks to the efforts of legendary former Petaluma High coach Doug Johnson.

In a message to families on May 9, Esmeralda Sanchez Moseley, assistant superintendent of student services, said schools are seeing an increase in incidents “involving intentional damage” to district-issued Chromebook computers.

The Vine Valley Athletic League track and field championships, held May 7 at Petaluma High School, brought out some top performances among local athletes. Casa Grande’s boys varsity team took second place overall, as did the Gauchos’ girls junior varsity and Petaluma’s boys junior varsity teams. Casa’s girls varsity team finished third overall.
