Ambulance company AMR is bringing in staff from more than 7,000 miles across the Pacific to shore up ambulance service in Portland. The company announced this week it is securing visas to bring Australian paramedics to Oregon for two years at a time, as part of a push to improve its ambulance response times in Multnomah County and avoid more than $8 million in fines. AMR has been overhauling its ambulance service through a settlement agreement with Multnomah County.
