FreeSurfer-derived cortical thickness and surface area measures showed no predictive value for pharmacotherapeutic treatment response in major depressive disorder in the current sample of the population at large. Classification performance was not dependent on machine learning pipeline configuration, that is, cortical data representation, the inclusion of clinical data, the machine learning method used, or the cross-validation scheme used.

Summations Increasing the amount of rTMS pulses does not increase the chances on treatment response. Receiving more sessions was significantly associated with higher treatment response. Limitations The included studies showed high levels of heterogeneity. This study did not investigate the longitudinal contribution of number of sessions or rTMS pulses on treatment response.

1. Introduction Current diagnostic classifications of psychiatric disorders, including depressive and anxiety disorders, rely on assessments of clinical presentation [1]. These psychiatric classifications are, however, not underpinned by neurobiological systems and do not take into account the heterogeneity within and across these psychiatric disorders [1, 2]. As a result, research findings are often inconsistent, and treatment effects are insufficient [3].
