(KRON) — A Richmond man who used his 6-year-old nephew to hide a loaded gun from police was sentenced Tuesday to serve 46 months in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín sentenced Darneko Yates after he was convicted at trial. The gun-hiding incident happened on August 27, 2023 outside of Yates’ relative’s house in San Pablo. Police officers had followed Yates’ vehicle for several blocks while his young nephew and niece were in the backseat.

(KRON) — Morgan Hill police released more details Tuesday about what happened before officers shot a man inside a Safeway grocery store on Dunne Avenue last week. Shaun Hillman, 40, had refused to leave the Safeway, and when officers arrived, he “threw a volley of wine bottles in rapid succession at them,” the Morgan Hill Police Department wrote. Hillman survived the police shootingThe incident began on April 18 when Hillman entered the grocery store carrying a large kitchen knife.

(KRON) — A Brisbane woman who allegedly attempted to gouge her foster daughter’s eye out was ordered by a judge to complete a mental health treatment program. The foster parent, Sandra Lee Linder, was previously charged by San Mateo County prosecutors with child abuse. After a four-day hearing in March, a judge found 52-year-old Linder suitable for mental health diversion and all criminal proceedings were suspended.

(KRON) — The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced Tuesday that some of its offices in the San Francisco Bay Area will offer appointments on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., to accommodate customers who want to get a REAL ID. REAL IDs will be enforced under the federal REAL ID Act starting on May 7.
