OPD Chief Floyd Mitchell has been asking the Oakland Police Commission to loosen the restrictions on high-speed pursuits. But Thursday’s meeting also comes just weeks after a high school teacher was hit and killed by an 18-year-old fleeing from the California Highway Patrol.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — On Friday, Castlemont High School held a graduation ceremony in Oakland without one of its most inspiring teachers. Marvin Boomer, a math teacher who led the school’s college preparatory program, was killed while walking with his girlfriend on East 21st Street in Oakland just two days before his senior students received their diplomas. Boomer and his girlfriend were struck by a stolen car that fled from California Highway Patrol officers Wednesday evening.

He says every step will help raise money for immigrant children detained at the border. "Many of these kids are fleeing violence, trafficking, unimaginable hardships back at home then they are met with a system that treats them like adults," says McConnell.

News: BART service will be restored to all 50 BART stations Wednesday, May 21 Trains will again be running between Lake Merritt, Berryessa/North San Jose, and Dublin/Pleasanton stations after an early Tuesday morning fire on the tracks just south of San Leandro Station.
