On February 13 in reply to a question raised in the Parliament (Lok Sabha) the government replied that there are 226 accident prone spots on highways in Himachal Pradesh and there are 200 such spots in Jammu and Kashmir. Himalayan roads and highways need special safety measures as an accident here can lead to much more loss of life when vehicles tumble down steep hillsides.

The farming and food system must be based on a very large number of small or reasonably sized farmers (including family farms) and small agro-processing units, producing healthy food in ecologically protective ways. Instead small farmers are being displaced and family farms are disappearing as those who are truly dedicated to farming have to say tearful farewells to their farms, while billionaires and richest corporations acquire millions of acres of farmland.
