Function PDX, the Portland beer-centric events space that hosts monthly pop-ups featuring breweries from across the nation, announced a lineup for the first six months of 2025 that includes eight breweries from California, two from Colorado and two from Texas. It’s time to open nominations for the next category of The Oregonian’s Readers Choice Awards: the best brewery or cidery in the Portland area. If you’re looking for ideas, consider Great Notion Brewing, which earned its first Medium Brewery of the Year honors at the Oregon Beer Awards earlier this year. Or Grand Fir Brewing, which won the Small Brewery of the Year crown at those same awards then raked in more awards at this past weekend’s nationwide Great American Beer Festival.

Oregon breweries didn’t just break their record haul of medals at this past weekend’s Great American Beer Festival, they obliterated it, capturing 33 medals, compared with the previous record of 25 in 2013. Beyond that, three breweries — and for the first year a cidery — won enough hardware to be named breweries and cidery of the year at the Denver festival’s competition, considered the nation’s most prestigious and challenging.
