They are not traditionally attractive flyers, however the Turkey Vulture is an interesting aviator. This picture was captured by Princeton wildlife photographer John Moody, near Princeton. According to allaboutbirds.org, Turkey Vultures are effective scavengers, stalking farmers’ fields and hanging out beside highways, waiting to optimize kills. The Turkey Vulture uses its keen sense of smell to detect carrion.

Ten students from John Allison Elementary and Vermillion Forks Elementary received back packs stuffed with school supplies recently, thanks to the Kits for Kids program sponsored by Telus. Boundary-Similkameen MLA Roly Russell reached out to Princeton Family Services (PFS) to ask them to co-ordinate the delivery of supplies. Chelsea Jwaszko, who will be assuming the executive director’s role at PFS later this year as current ED Jenny Pedwell retires, organized the drop off to schools.

The third annual Fenchurch Avenue block party, Sunday, August 25, was the most successful celebration to date. The gathering was long planned for the previous day, Saturday, but incessant rains made it impossible. With fingers crossed everyone waited for next day. More than 100 people crowded the street, enjoying a free barbecue, conversation with neighbours, and plenty of games for children and adults. Todd and Kim Davidson were the hosts.

Start your engines. The 2024 Princeton Show and Shine is waxed up and ready to go on Labour Day weekend. Show and Shine was a staple on the community calendar for years, but was eventually ended when the organizer retired. In 2023, five motor enthusiasts brought the tradition back with a bang, drawing hundreds of cars and people to town. “Last year we were voted best car show by Cruising the Okanagan. This year we are hoping to be bigger and better,” said Therese Grgich.
