What's being described as an "unforgettable" experience for close to 50 teenagers in Penticton has come to an end after five days and two rugby matches. YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada recently helped send the Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union to the Okanagan for the first leg of an exchange program with the Penticton Harlequins Junior Rugby Club.

Dozens of taekwondo students will converge at a Penticton mall later this week and raise funds for the South Okanagan Women In Need Society (SOWINS). Adam Foster, owner of Valley Taekwondo in Penticton, is bringing his annual "Break-a-Thon" event to Cherry Lane Shopping Centre on Friday (May 30). It will mark the third time Foster is hosting the event in Penticton after he organized a similar function in Spruce Grove, Alta. for more than 20 years.

Nolan Stevenson is staying in the South Okanagan. The 20-year-old defenceman, who spent the last two seasons serving as an alternate captain with the Penticton Vees in the BCHL, has inked a deal with the city's newly-minted Western Hockey League (WHL) expansion club ahead of the 2025-2026 season. Penticton awarded Stevenson, a native of Shaunavon, Sask., with a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

A longtime Penticton resident who recently resigned from the city's Parks and Recreation Committee is speaking out against a plan that will see four new pickleball courts installed near Skaha Lake. John Archer has garnered about 150 signatures on his petition that voices concern over a $270,000 sports development project inside Skaha Lake Park. The city's plan will eliminate one of the three existing tennis courts in the area to accommodate the new pickleball facilities.

Penticton city staff are set to audit residents' recycling bins, as the community looks to lower its contamination rate to eight per cent by the end of 2025. The Environmental Outreach Ambassadors, who are hired as summer students, will soon be travelling across the community on electric bikes to conduct "random inspections" of curbside recycling, and yard waste carts, according to the city.
