The Critteraid Animal Sanctuary in Summerland has an adult black cat who is ready to purr by your side and offer up snuggles. Lori Huot-Stewart, president of Critteraid, said 10 year old Leena is in perfect health. "We have never figured out the reason that black cats are sometimes overlooked," she said. "So I kind of think they know that they have to be extra, extra special to stand out and shine.

Penticton will be host to a Barn Burner Tournament next weekend, with six local teams facing off. The U11 Lacrosse Tournament takes place from June 6–8 at Memorial Arena and organizers are encouraging the community to come out, watch the games and support the kids. "Let’s fill the stands, cheer loud, and make this weekend unforgettable for the kids," tournament organizer Will van Middendorp said.

The fire extinguishers are loaded up and registration numbers are looking strong for the annual Colours4Kids benefit run. Wildstone Colours4Kids Run will return to Penticton on Sunday, June 8, raising funds for the OSNS Child & Youth Development Centre to help kids throughout the South Okanagan-Similkameen. A reminder to the drivers and the public that Lakeshore Drive will be closed from Locolanding to Front Street from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday to accommodate the fun run.

Eyes were on the skies on Saturday watching a live training exercise for the Royal Canadian Air Forces' 442 Squadron Cormorant. The 19 Wing Comox 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron was a part of the protective services event at Okanagan Lake Park. According to the air force, these specialized helicopters can operate in extreme conditions, carry a load of up to 5,000 kilograms, and provide a stable hover for hoisting.

The District of Summerland said they are receiving reports of multiple power outages on Saturday afternoon, due to high winds from the weather system that came through town. "District electrical crews are responding at this time, and any updates will be provided through Facebook or Voyent Alert," their post reads. Residents can sign up for Voyent Alert online here. One Castanet reader shared a photo of a large tree uprooted in their yard in Summerland, damaged by the 60km/hr winds.
