In the latest crackdown on errant drivers, the police have been heavily relying on the fixed CCTV cameras to detect speeding motorists. The fixed cameras on highways, which are also called a freeway camera, shoot a radar beam towards passing vehicles, and then the beam of light bounces off the vehicle to the camera system. This enables the CCTV system to measure the speed at which the vehicle was being driven. If the vehicle exceeds the prescribed speed, the camera automatically takes its image.
