Some quick thinking by local folks stopped a house fire from getting a whole lot worse last Friday evening, June 20. Pastor Will Martin of Muldoon Baptist Church and his wife Kendra were driving by the boat ramp at the Colorado River in La Grange when they noticed a fire burning on the porch of a house. They called 911. No one was home. “We banged on windows but it looked to be empty,” Martin said. La Grange Police Officer Noah Geer was nearby and responded almost immediately.

The 100 Club of Houston presented La Grange Police Officer Mitchell Maxwell with an Officer of the Year Award at their annual banquet on May 22. Maxwell saved the life of his fellow officer, Kevin Currington, on May 9, 2024, after Currington’s service pistol inexplicably discharged inside of the holster. The bullet struck an artery in Currington’s leg and he nearly bled to death. Maxwell responded to the scene.

Ispoke too soon a few weeks ago when writing about some problems I had with red peppers. At the time, I mentioned a fellow gardener had contacted me about the same problem – beautiful, glossy green bell peppers that seem to deteriorate and rot as they ripen to red. Both he and I theorized that our hot weather may be the culprit, especially since many of the red bell peppers sold in grocery stores are often grown in cooler climates. Maybe we’re just stuck with green bell peppers, we thought.

Game Warden Shaun Bayless got an unusual call Tuesday afternoon about a man walking a whitetailed fawn on a leash in front of the Courthouse. The man, who asked not to be identified, said he found the fawn a few weeks ago in the West Point area. He believed the mother had died, so he took in the baby deer and began caring for it. He thought the fawn was an axis deer, a non-native species that occasionally escape captivity.

That’s my thinking as to why we’re not high enough yet, and the lack of heifer retention backs this up. The risk isn’t worth the return is what the market is saying. Which is also why it’s the perfect time to get into it. And eventually ya will need to hedge accordingly.

My wife went fishing with her brother this weekend and killed it. Just one of many.

This is how you do it! https://t.co/xTJWpHdS0g
