    UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has dropped the construction of the new Union Parish campus of Louisiana Delta Community College from a priority one project to a priority five - the state’s lowest priority. According to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office, that still gives those in charge of building the new campus the authority to enter into contracts. However, it does not allow any payments to be made without specific approval.

    The former queens from the Krewe of Janus gathered Saturday, January 27th to welcome the newest member of the group. They inducted Queen Janus XLI Rena Rushing into their fold with a luncheon at the Fat Pelican in Monroe. Twenty former queens attended and shared their experiences with Queen Renata. They showered their newest member with gifts to commemorate her year. Queen Janus XLI will be featured Saturday night, February 3rd in the Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras Parade.

    MONROE, La. (KNOE) -Monroe attorney David E. Verlander, III was presented the 2023 President’s Award by the Louisiana Bar Foundation at its Annual Fellows Membership Meeting Friday, April 21st. The President’s award is presented to a Fellow for support, volunteer service, dedication, and advancement of the mission and goals of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, the state’s largest funder of civil legal aid. Verlander is with the Law Offices of McLeod Verlander in Monroe.

    LITTLE ROCK, La. (KNOE) - A spokesman for former Gov. Asa Hutchinson has confirmed he will formally announce his candidacy for president of the United States of America later this month. Hutchinson told ABC News in an interview Sunday morning that he definitely will run. The Arkansas Democrat Gazette is reporting he will make that announcement in Bentonville on April 26. Hutchinson was seen in Iowa last week at several speaking engagements.

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNOE) - The Arkansas Legislature is debating a bill that would ban delta-8 products in the state. The sponsors of senate bill 358 are proposing the ban with the theory that it is a danger to children when sold in gas stations and convenience stores. Those opposed to the ban say the products can have a positive impact on health, especially regarding the negative impact on cancer treatments. Supporters have called for regulation of the products and not a ban.
