United Parcel Service said Friday it plans to lay off 244 workers as it prepares to temporarily close a North Portland facility. The notice issued to the state indicates the layoffs will start May 30. The facility, at 6707 N. Basin Ave., is set to close June 30. "This closure is expected to be temporary," wrote Lori Cruz, the company's human resources business partner, in the notice to the state.

An extremely nice person, just like her spouse.

Deeply saddened to hear this news about Dottie Schonely, a smart and gracious woman who made everyone she met smile. I’ll always remember how dearly she and Bill loved each other — and loved every moment of their lives together as the First Couple of #RipCity.
