A second virtual student media teleconference of 2024 was hosted by California Community Colleges Chancellor Sonya Christian via Zoom on April 23rd. Chancellor Christian provided updates on important topics such as Black Student Success Week, mental health support, Asian American Hawaiian Pacific Islander Month, upcoming enrollment, student awards, and state budget speculations. Student viewers were also welcomed to ask questions and encouraged to participate in all discussed activities.

Bakersfield College’s Rising Scholars Program presented an event featuring four panelists who shared their stories as formerly incarcerated and incarcerated individuals. The event was initiated by BC’s student government and moderated by Rising Scholar’s Program Director Angelica Perez. All four panelists featured Israel Cota, Peer Mentor. Danielle Harris, student. Shawn Newsom,Associate Professor of History, and Trevor Turner, student.

On Wednesday, April 10 Bakersfield College’s Student Government Association (BCSGA) hosted a Student Town Hall with President Dr. Jerry Fliger. BCSGA Vice President Amanda Anguiano asked a series of questions and represented all of BC by speaking on behalf of all student body regarding academic progress, campus life, and overall educational success. Dr. Fliger shared his educational background in college and related to BC students and their journey in their early college experiences.

After years of anticipation, UFC 300 has arrived. This card featured star power and left audiences with a night to remember. The event took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada on April 13, 2024. UFC 300 consisted of eight Prelim matches, three main card matches, and a co-main event featuring Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan, and the main event showcased Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill. Pereira defended the light heavyweight title against Hill who has never lost the belt in competition.
