San Carlos Airport air traffic controllers reach labor agreement

San Carlos Airport is now fully staffed with air traffic controllers following a pay dispute, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed on Wednesday, April 2. A new airport contractor, Oklahoma-based Robinson Aviation (RVA), reached a contract agreement with controllers before a 60-day deadline to settle talks. Permanent staffing for the tower was in limbo when controllers for RVA refused to begin work on Feb.

Children hopped on new and restored fire trucks while nursing juice boxes as firefighters toured visitors around the Woodside Fire Protection District’s newly constructed Station 7 on Saturday, March 22. It was all part of the grand opening of a facility 12 years in the making and to celebrate the district’s 100th birthday. The station, which is twice as large as the 73-year-old one it replaced at 21,827 square feet, officially opened its doors at 3111 Woodside Road in 2024.

Sue Crane, Portola Valley public servant, dies at age of 92

Sue Crane, a former Portola Valley Town Council member and the last living founder of Ridge Vineyards, died on March 14, 2025, surrounded by family at her home in The Sequoias. She was 92. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on Sept. 11, 1932, to Rachel and Aaron Gorlin, Crane was the oldest of three siblings. Crane graduated with a degree in psychology at Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in Pennsylvania in 1954.

San Mateo County has named Amy Davidson head of its Center on Homelessness, which coordinates homeless services throughout the county. The county also announced that the center was elevated to a division of the county’s Human Services Agency at the time of Davidson’s appointment, according to a press release on Thursday, Feb. 20.
