Culver Town Council Opens Bids for Lakeshore Drive Widening Project

Anita GoodanTwo bids for the Lakeshore Drive widening project were opened during the Culver Town Council meeting Thursday, June 12. The project was awarded funds through the Community Crossings Matching Grant program. The project involves the widening of Lakeshore Drive from Academy to State Road 10 and moving sanitation/sewer lines. Town Attorney Kevin Tankersley opened a bid from Milestone Contractors whose base bid was $557,400.
North Judson Mint Festival Deemed a Success

Anita GoodanMembers of the North Judson Town Council and those attending the council’s meeting Monday, June 16 commented on the success of this year’s North Judson Mint Festival. Comments were positive which included the increased attendance, the number of food and merchandise vendors, the variety of activities and the music. Mint Festival committee members also said many people commented to them on how great the festival was.
Culver Town Council Approves Amendment to South West Lake Maxinkuckee Conservancy District Agreement

Anita GoodanThe Culver Town Council members were presented with the third amendment to the agreement with the South West Lake Maxinkuckee Conservancy District when they met June 12. Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that the amendment includes the authorization of the addition of four parcels into the district territory. The addition is within the original agreement of 175 residential lots and will remain under the recommended flow.
North Judson Town Council to Interview Planning Commission, BZA Candidates

The interviews will take place prior to the next town council meeting on June 16. The council members will soon be meeting with members of the North Judson Park Board to gather opinions on the proposed amenities to the second phase of the North Judson Town Park improvement project.
Culver Town Council to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Water Rate Adjustments

Anita GoodanThe Culver Town Council will be holding a public hearing soon to take comments on a proposal to increase the town’s water rates. The council members received studies from Baker Tilly officials and previously held a work session to go over the studies. The rates have not been increased in 10 years and it was explained that with upcoming capital improvements needed and the cost of replacing 180 lead water lines the time is now to increase the rates.
Culver Town Council Approves First Reading on Ordinances

Anita GoodanThe Culver Town Council members approved the first reading on several ordinances during their meeting May 22. The additional appropriations ordinance was approved on first reading following a public hearing on the matter. They also approved the first reading of an amendment of the 2025 salary ordinance that pertains to a part-time park assistant and other personnel at the park. Those salaries will undergo a re-evaluation at the end of the summer season.

During their most recent meeting, the North Judson Town Council members learned that vendor space is sold out and is expected to be an exciting weekend of activities. The green paper that lists all of the activities and certain features and sponsors is available at several business locations throughout Starke County.
North Judson Redevelopment Commission Receives Preliminary Design of Phase Two of Park Improvement Project

Anita GoodanThe North Judson Redevelopment Commission members looked at a preliminary design of the second phase of the North Judson Town Park project when they met Monday, May 19. There are plans to apply for a second Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for additional amenity upgrades to the Town Park at Weninger and George Streets. The town is working with The Troyer Group who assisted in the first phase that was completed last year.
Culver Town Council Members Adopt Proclamations

Anita GoodanThe Culver Town Council members adopted two proclamations during their recent meeting. The first proclamation recognizes National Police Week as May 11-17, 2025, while the second proclamation recognizes National EMS Week as May 18-24, 2025. The council members commend all in those roles who serve the Town of Culver and Union Township. The council also authorized maintenance work done to all Stryker equipment associated with EMS.
