Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy baseball team won its first district title since 2016 via wins over Vestaburg and third-ranked Beal City.

    BELDING – Plenty of runs and plenty of great pitching. On Saturday afternoon the Shepherd High School softball team got a bit of both en route to a Division 2 district championship from Belding High School. As it was the Jays opened the day with an 8-1 win over Belding before topping Big Rapids 15-0 in five innings in the district championship game. With the wins the Lady Jays (27-14) advance to next weekend’s D2 regional at Alma College where they will take on top-ranked Escanaba at noon.

    REED CITY – It could have very well been a regional final or state semifinal or state final for that matter. Yet, it was a district semifinal and the opening game of the playoffs. On Saturday afternoon the top-ranked Clare High School softball program defeated defending Division 3 state champion Evart 5-0 in a D3 district semifinal from Reed City High School.

    It was another classic game between two of the best teams in the state of Michigan who just happen to be two long-time rivals. On Friday evening from Montabella High School the second-ranked Beal City softball program won a second-straight Division 4 district title as it swept its two games on the day. As it was the Aggies opened the day with a 16-0, four-inning, win over Vestaburg before defeating sixth-ranked Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy 12-11 in the district championship game.

    HEMLOCK – Back-to-back district championships. On Friday evening from Hemlock High School the St. Louis softball program won a second-straight Division 3 district championship as the Sharks went 2-0 on the day. St. Louis, which improves to 21-9 overall, opened the day with a 5-3 win over rival Ithaca before besting Hemlock 6-3 in the district championship game. With the district title in tow the Sharks now advance to next weekend’s regional round.
