Ithaca track programs clinch 3rd-straight TVC Championship

The postseason is here and so are the Ithaca Yellowjackets. On Wednesday evening from Hemlock High School both highly-ranked Ithaca High School track and field programs capped the conference season with a third-straight conference championship. On the boys side the third-ranked Jackets won the six-team Tri-Valley Conference Blue crown by tallying 231 points on the day. Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary was second with 134 points.
Allison takes over as new head football coach at Alma High School

There’s a new head football coach at Alma High School. Well, he’s not really new to coaching nor to Alma, yet he’s new to the head varsity football coaching position at Alma High School. In early-April Alma announced the hiring of Mike Allison as it new head football coach heading into the 2025 fall season. “Timing is everything and I’m excited because this is the right time and the right spot,” said Allison of taking over the head-coaching reins.

The weather is warming and with it records are falling. Over the course of the last three weeks the Mt. Pleasant High School track team and the Shepherd High School track team have both been breaking school records at an alarming rate. The Mt. Pleasant boys program has seen four different school records broken in the last three weeks while the Jays broke three different school records on Monday during their home conference invite versus Gladwin and St. Louis.
Legends Football Camp slated for mid-July in Clare

The fifth-annual Legends Football Camp is scheduled for July 15 through July 17 at the Brookwood Athletic Complex in Clare. This camp is run by retired Detroit Lion wide receiver Jeff Chadwick and it features numerous retired Detroit Lion players annually. This year the field includes Scott Conover, Bruce McNorton, James Harrell, Jimmy Williams, Cory Schlesinger, Ross Williams, Jitter Fields and Eric Stocz. Dates for camps are as follows.
Shepherd softball looking to heat up in stretch run

Over the course of the last five years the Shepherd softball program has been consistently good. Year-in and year-out. During this time frame the Jays have compiled an overall record of 101-40-1, winning 71-percent of the games they’ve played in. Moreover, the Lady Jays have also put together a couple unbelievable postseasons in recent years, winning district crowns in 2021 and 2023 in incredible fashion via late-inning rallies that defy logic and convention.
Mt. Pleasant’s Loveberry to race in Kentucky Derby on Saturday night

Mt. Pleasant’s Jareth Loveberry will be racing in the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday evening. The 2005 Mt. Pleasant High School graduate will ride Chuck of Gold from the 19th position at 28-to-1 odds. In 2023 Loveberry finished second in the Kentucky Derby on Two Phil’s. The duo led for a good portion of the race before being overtaken by Mage late. Post time is slated for 7:02 p.m. from Churchill Downs. It is the second Kentucky Derby start for the 37-year old Loveberry.
Shepherd baseball off to strong start this spring at 11-2

A good start puts you in a good position to do some good things later on. Through the first month-plus of the 2025 spring season that’s exactly what the Shepherd High School baseball team has done as it’s put itself in good position to do some good things later on. To date the Jays sport an 11-2 overall record and are in second place in the Jack Pine Conference at 6-1-1, trailing only Standish-Sterling in the conference race.
Five mid-Michigan softball programs ranked in statewide rankings

Historically speaking mid-Michigan hasn’t exactly been a prep softball powerhouse, yet that appears to be changing here in 2025. The last team from the immediate mid-Michigan area to win a state softball championship was Coleman way back in 2005 under Joe Albaugh. Since then two teams have advanced to state titles games in Mt. Pleasant (2010) and Coleman (2018) while eight teams have advanced to the semifinal round. That’s not a lot in the big picture nor in the grand scheme.
Upset Special: Ithaca softball sweeps top-ranked Evart

They’re rolling, literally. On Wednesday evening the Ithaca High School softball team notched two of the biggest wins in program history as the Lady Jackets swept host Evart by scores of 1-0 and 7-6. Evart is the top-ranked team in Division 3 in the MHSSCA state rankings and the defending D3 state champion. Ithaca is receiving votes in the statewide softball rankings as an honorable mention team.
Mt. Pleasant’s Jim MacLean earns 50-year service award from MHSAA

For the past five decades Jim MacLean has played a huge role within the Mt. Pleasant sports community at nearly every level. For 38 years he ran the much-vaunted Union Township Little League program and helped turn it into one of the best Little League programs in the state of Michigan. The program played a big role in feeding the high school programs at Mt. Pleasant and Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Academy.
