The average 18-year-old can look forward to 334 months of free time assuming they live to the age of 90. Most people are on track to spend 312 of those months looking unproductively at a screen. Last week, the students, parents and staff at Rocky Mount Academy had the opportunity to attend a presentation about Project Reboot, which — instead of saying we should never use technology — asks us to be more mindful and intentional about our use.

For most people, the smell of cooking kasha means nothing. As a part Pole and Ukrainian, it’s the scent of my childhood. I can see my Nonnie stirring the kernels and my dad reaching out to give me a Mason jar full. My kids love it, too, and gobble it up when offered. Deceptively easy to make, kasha, or buckwheat groats to non-Slavs and those who are not of Jewish heredity, is a staple grain that’s lauded for being one of the most nutritious to consume.

The changes come ahead of a state-mandated directive to make way for more financially-accessible housing across the state by a Jan. 1, 2024 deadline. The Planning Board passed on its recommendations the following night to the City Council, which is charged to approve an ordinance.
